Fluxcore wire welding works just fine in the field for fence work. That is what I primarily use on the truck for fence and railing repair and installation. Your 4600 running watts generator will power a portable mig welder with .030 or .035 fluxcore wire at a plenty high enough setting to weld the pipe.

Having seen many people struggle with building welded braces, he knew it was more than just his problem. Knowing the major force of fence bracing is compressive, he knew welding was not necessary. He began penciling drawings for a no-weld pipe connector which evolved into the Fence Bullet. He first installed Fence Bullets on his ranch. With posts set, a brace member cut to length, it took him just 5 minutes, using end wrenches to easily install the rail fence cross member.
The welded wire fence is also known for its durability, its made of the solid material which is safe to use for years. With those advantages, there is no reason to consider welded wire fence to secure your backyard.
Posts were set in concrete and stays had been pre-cut in our Fab Shop, then using our pre cut pipe fence saddles the "Flatback 2 3/8" for 2 3/8" pipe, our welder was able to do one complete stay , fence use sch1ss400 welded pipe
I welded the top rail together with a smaller piece of pipe inside the two pieces and some plug welds to anchor the inner pipe to the outer (cut holes in the outer piece, slide the inner piece in, fill the holes with your weld).
Pipe Fence 101. It's very hard steel and hard to weld where it will hold. We had problems with sucker rod ripping itself off the post on long runs because it would expand and contract because of temp. changes and it had no where to give. You would be suprised at how much longer the rod would be on a hot summer day.
You clamp it around the pipe and use it as a guide for the torch head. They come in saddle cut, 45 degree and orange peel for making dome tops for both 2 3/8 and 2 7/8 (OD) size pipe. They run about $70 and can be found a most local welding shops around here, but consider we have cheaper access to oilfield pipe in this part of the country.
Feedlots and ranches (corrals) often use oilfield tubing and sucker rods for heavy fencing. 2 7/8" pipe is tubing, not drill pipe. It is stationary in the borehole, transporting oil, gas, water, etc. up to the surface (or down from the surface).

Steel Pipe Fence: New steel is very expensive and the welding makes it very costly. You can save some money by getting the pipe that comes in from the oilfield, but it takes a lot of time to cut it and weld it together to be used as a fence and at the end of the day you have worn pipe. The sackcrete is mixed in a wheel borrow and poured in the holes. I use three post in line each direction. I have two cross braces welded in place from 2 7/8 pipe. One at the top of the post which are about 54 inches tall and then one about 12 inches from the ground. I weld the heavy duty bull panels to the post and the cross braces.
Build Pipe Fences Without Hiring a Welder! Until now, there was not an easy way to build pipe fence braces. Until now, welding was the only option. Welded braces are labor intensive, require special skills and expensive equipment causing welding to be costly in terms of both time and money.
They then cut a hole in each end, ran a stick of exhaust pipe through it, and then welded the ends around the pipe. Before they ran the pipe through the shaft they'd run it through a drill press and punch some holes in it, but the main idea was to have what an inspector might consider a muffler, but without the effect of having one.
Saddling and uphill welding 2 3/8 to 2 7/8 post. Using a purox torch with 4202-3 tip. Also called fishmouth or coping pipe
The smaller pipe you mentioned may have been used in workover rigs and may not be magnetized. You may also want to use a respirator to protect yourself. They usually check our used casing for NORM (normally ocurring radioactive material). Not to mention any of the hydrocarbon based residue on or inside the pipe.
Re: Pipe fence and Pole barn welder Hey NoGood, I've repaired pipe fence with a generator and Lincoln Tombstone AC welder thrown in the back of the truck when it's all I had available. I don't think I would want to do 40 acres of pipe fence that way but if your only doing the H-braces and corners then it might be an idea to tinker with.

I don't know about adding field fence to the pipe fencing, but I have cattle panels welded to some of my pipe fencing because the previous owner was a roper and had calves and goats that needed to be kept in. It would work well for larger dogs, but not so much for dogs that are smaller and don't respect fencing.
